Horizont Minsk survived a brutal double overtime battle to post a 66-64 win over Pieštanske Čajky on Tuesday, December 7, at the Diplomat Arena. It was a second 50 minutes showdown in the EWBL history.
Players of the game
Anastasiya Verameyenka led all scorers with 24 points. The reigning league MVP made 7-of-10 two point shots and went for a perfect 10-of-10 from the free throw line.
Horizont center grabbed 19 (!) rebounds, dished out four assists and blocked four shots for a efficiency rating of 44.
Verameyenka tied the third highest efficiency rating in the EWBL history with Tiffany Brown (26.02.2018).
Brown and Verameyenka trail to Gabija Šegždaite from Hoptrans Sirenos (eff 51, January 13, 2018) and Alyssa Lawrence from A3 Basket (eff 46, October 7, 2018).
Mariane Roberta De Carvalho also posted a double-double. Brazilian forward had 12 points and 10 rebounds in 40:50 minutes of play.
De Carvalho scored four points in the second overtime. Maja Scekič and Volha Ziuzkova added four points each in two overtimes.
Dominika Rusisakova scored 11 points in the first and second overtime to finish the game with 20 points.
Čajky sharpshooter hit three three-pointers after the end of regulation, including two in the first overtime.
Rusisakova added nine rebounds, two steals and six forced fouls for a efficiency rating of 21.
Matea Tadič had 13 points, six rebounds, three asissts and two steals.
Sarah Boothe chipped in with six points and 10 rebounds. Stanford graduate had three assists and one blocked shot too.

Yuliya Rytsikava blocked Matea Tadič at the end of regulation.
Rusisakova made two three pointers with 01:18 left in the first overtime for a 55-57 lead.
Verameyenka made both free throws to tie the game at 57 with 63 seconds left in the first overtime.
Rusisakova missed the next three point attempt and the Čajky didn`t scored after turnover by Maja Scekič.
De Carvalho and Scekič joined forces to give Horizont a 65-61 lead with 01:42 to go in the second overtime.
Rusisakova made the third three pointer to spice the things up with 24 seconds left on the clock 65-64.
Pirttinen missed the potential go-ahead basket and fouled Horizont point guard.
Ziuzkova split the free throws with seven seconds left 66-64, while Rusisakova missed a desperate three point attempt.
Horizont outrebounded Čajky 59-45.
Minsk team scored more points in the paint (24-20) and registered a 83 percent accuracy from the free throw line (20/24).
The Seagulls turned the ball over just 11 times (Horizont 25) and scored more points off turnovers (27-4).
Pieštanske Čajky excelled in transition but struggled in a positional game. They made just 23 percent of their field goal attempts (19/80), including 13 percent from downtown (4/30).

Peter Jankovič won two EWBL titles with Good Angels Košice (2017, 2018).
Nataliya Trafimava and Zlatan Presič won the 2021 title with Horizont.
This was the second double overtime game in the EWBL history.
Horizont won the two overtime battle against Astana Tigers 84-79 on January 9, 2016, in Tallinn, Estonia.
Two Čajky players – Tadič, Boothe – and two Horizont players – Verameyenka, De Carvalho – accumulated more than 40 minutes of playing time.
