Tsmoki Minsk (3-2) completed a 74-71 comeback win over SBŠ Ostrava (1-1) and guaranteed a postseason run for the fourth time on Friday, December 3, at the Liepāja Olympic Center in western Latvia.
Players of the game
Rachel Theriot – who else – led the Dragons with 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the field and 4-of-4 from the free throw line.
Nebraska standout dished out five assists, secured three rebounds and stole the ball twice for a triple-tied game high efficiency rating of 22.
Universal soldier of Minsk – Ala Murauskaya – had 10 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
Darya Mahalias posted the dirty dozen, finishing with 13 points.
Yana Makutsa rounded out the excellent week with seven points and nine rebounds.
Tereza Motycakova flirted with a triple-double. Ostrava captain scored 14 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out seven assists.
Czech team point guard stole the ball three times and forced six fouls for a efficiency rating of 22.
Stella Tarkovičova tied Theriot in scoring, pouring in 20 points. Forward added eight rebounds and six forced fouls for a efficiency rating of 22.
Anna Kubičkova had 13 points and five rebounds.
Last but not least, Adela Smutna scored 12 points.
Key stats
Ostrava had a terrific game and led by as much as 13 points late in the first half (32-45) after a jump shot by Tarkovičova.
Double M – Mahalias and Murauskaya – hit two quick three pointers early in the second half to start a 15-3 run which resulted in a 49-48 lead.
There were several lead changes after and the game remained tight until the last possession.
Theriot made both free throws with 0:28 left to regain a 72-71 lead for the Dragons.
Tarkovičova turned the ball over and Ostrava fouled again to send Kseniya Vabischevich to the free throw line.
She was perfect 74-71. Motycakova missed her attempt to tie the game at 74.
Game notes
Tsmoki Minsk secured the fourth postseason run in team`s history (2016, 2019, 2020, 2022).
The Dragons reached the final in 2019 at Rostov on Don.
SBŠ Ostrava should be happy too. The Czech team fought well in Liepāja and registered its first win since October 24.
Sona Svetlikova didn`t played on Friday.
