Tomorrow never dies: huge win for Pieštanske Čajky

Pieštanske Čajky responded in a good way after a heartbreak double overtime loss against Horizont Minsk and put an end to BC Samara streak with a 74-70 win on Wednesday, December 8, at the Diplomat Arena.

Dominika Rusisakova had a huge second half and scored 14 of her 17 points after the break.

Forward lit it up from the three point line and made 3-of-5 attempts.

Rusisakova also forced five fouls for a team high efficiency rating of 14.

Matea Tadič struggled with her shooting but was invaluable for her team.

Čajky captain posted 11 points, three assists and four steals in 38:16 minutes of playing time.

Natalia Martiškova finished with 10 points.

Stanford graduate Sarah Boothe had nine points, five points and three assists in a win over Arizona rival Trinity Baptiste (hello, 2021 NCAA championship game).

Veera Pirttinen and Laura Želnyte scored 11 and seven points respectively.

Trinity Baptiste led Samara with 19 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field and 6-of-8 from the charity stripe.

Arizona standout added 11 rebounds and three assists for a game high efficiency rating of 23.

Daria Kurilchuk, Anastasia Komarova and Jennifer O`Neill (Kentucky) scored 13 points each.

Key stats

Pieštanske Čajky bench outscored Samara 22-6.

Samara turned the ball over 23 times, compared to nine turnovers for Pieštany.

Rusisakova and Martiškova spearheaded Čajky offense in the second half. Dynamic duo combined for a 24 points after the break.

Čajky lost the battle of rebounds (29-48, offensive rebounds 11-15) but contested every ball and outscored Samara in second chance points (16-4).

Second chances were crucial as the Seagulls struggled with first chance points (field goals 21/65 vs 26/58).

Game notes

Peter Jankovič and Pieštanske Čajky survived to live another day.

Samara won four consecutive games, including a 3-0 streak in the Russian Premier league, before a 70-74 loss at Pieštany.

Dmitry Donskov had a seven player rotation.
