Round-up: Žabiny and Nika qualify for EuroCup Women playoffs

Four teams will meet at Piešťany, Slovakia, on December 7-9. Meanwhile, Žabiny Brno from Group A and Nika Syktyvkar from Group B have qualified for the EuroCup Women playoffs.

Žabiny finished the ECW regular season on a high note. They traveled to Germany and edged out the German champs Rutronik Stars Keltern 78-77.

Eight days earlier…the Frogs destroyed the London Lions 68-41 at Hala Rosnička.

Viktor Pruša`s team finished second in Group K with a 4-2 record and advanced to the playoffs.

They will travel to Hungary on December 15 to play the first game at DVTK Miškolc. The second game is scheduled on December 22 at Hala Rosnička.

Žabiny

Nika Syktyvkar also qualified for the EuroCup Women knock-out games.

Komi region team lost all three encounters in the first half of the regular season but emerged victorious in the remaining three matches.

Nika won at Ormanspor Ankara 89-84, edged out DVTK Miškolc 82-68 (1-1 and +7 in sum) and, finally, destroyed Ludovika FCSM Csata Budapest to finish third in Group F.

Syktyvkar will host a French team Roche Vendee on December 15 before heading west on December 22.

Petra Zaplatova has scored 13,8 points and dished out 3,3 assists for Žabiny in EuroCup Women.

Bria Holmes (12,5 points) and Natalie Stoupalova (11,8 points) have also scored in double digits, while Anna Jurčenkova has solid 7,3 points and 7,2 rebounds.

Žabiny Brno are sailing smoothly at Renomia ŽBL, too. The Frogs have a 7-1 record – their only 69-91 loss came at the hands of superpower ZVVZ USK Praha on November 27.

Čajky 2111

Pieštanske Čajky have improved to 11-1 at Extraliga Ženy.

Their most serious national opponent is MBK Ružomberok – a legendary club who won two EuroLeague Women titles with Natalia Hejkova at the helm.

Ružomberok also qualified for the EuroCup Women playoffs and scored a memorable 55-51 win at Estudiantes Madrid on October 27.

Three weeks later Pieštanske Čajky fell at Ružomberok 48-58. The Seagulls rebounded with four consecutive wins, including a 65-62 win at Košice.

Three players average 10 or more points – Natalia Martiškova (13.0), Matea Tadič (12.1) and a Stanford graduate Sarah Ashley Boothe (10.3).

Horizont

Horizont Minsk didn`t qualified for the EuroCup Women playoffs after a 2-4 finish in Group C.

Belarus champs won at AZS UMCS Lublin 62-50 on October 28 but posted only one win in three home encounters at Molodechno – a 76-73 success over AZS Gorzow on November 25.

Anastasiya Verameyenka posted impressive numbers – 16,8 points and 9,7 rebounds.

Adrienne Nicole Webb (Louisiana State University 2013) also registered double figures – she averaged 11 points. Brazilian forward Mariane De Carvalho had 9,5 points and 5,8 rebounds.

Things are better at the home front. Horizont has a 11-0 record in Belarus championship, including a 60-57 home win over Olimpia Grodno on November 28.

Darya Kolosovskaia

BC Samara has posted three consecutive (!) wins in Russian Premier League. The newcomers started with a 1-5 but improved to 4-5, as of December 4.

Dmitry Donskov`s team won at Sparta&K Vidnoje 72-68 on October 17.

The next turning point came on November 21 with a 64-47 win at Peresvet SFEDU, followed by a 79-64 success at Spartak Noginsk and…the first home win over Enisey Krasnoyarsk (73-72) on December 4.

Puerto Rico international Jennifer Victoria O`Neill (Kentucky 2015) averages 14,3 points.

Daria Kolosovskaia and Daria Kurilchuk have 13,3 and 11,3 points respectively.

Trinity Baptiste (Virginia Tech 2020) last year joined Arizona as a graduate transfer and made it to the 2021 NCAA championship game against Stanford and Tara Vanderveer!

Tampa, Florida native averages 12,4 points and 7,9 rebounds for Samara.

Last, but no least, Saicha Grant-Allen is a Canadian center. She represented the Dayton Flyers during her college years and was selected 35th by the Los Angeles Sparks at the 2017 WNBA draft.
