O`Neill makes four point play, Samara win in overtime despite Verameyenka heroism

BC Samara blew a 17 point lead but thanks to some big plays by Jennifer O`Neill and Anna Zaitseva won in overtime against Horizont Minsk 74-68 (58-58) on Thursday, December 9, at the Diplomat Arena in Pieštany, Slovakia.

Jennifer O`Neill scored 7 of her 17 points in overtime, including a four point play with 00:34 to go.

Puerto Rico international attempted a three point shot when her team trailed by a single point 67-68.

O`Neill made the shot and was fouled too. Kentucky standout headed to the free throw line and extended Samara lead to three points 71-68!

Point guard split the free throws after the next Horizont foul 72-68.

O`Neill tied the game at 58 with 00:28 left in the regulation. She added nine assists and two steals for a efficiency rating of 21.

Anna Zaitseva 0912

Anna Zaitseva scored 24 points for Samara, including a six points effort in overtime.

Zaitseva made 10-of-15 field goals and a perfect 3-of-3 from the charity stripe for a game high efficiency rating of 29.

Trinity Baptiste (Arizona) had 18 points and six rebounds.

Donskov 0912

Anastasiya Verameyenka scored eight of her 17 points in overtime but it wasn`t enough.

The reigning league MVP grabbed 10 rebounds, dished out three assists and blocked one shot for a team high efficiency rating of 22.

Victoryia Hasper added 12 points for Horizont.

Key stats

Horizont bench outscored Samara 24-7.

Verameyenka scored two points in the second half. Her support cast did a good job to erase a 17 point gap.

Horizont went on a 12-31 run in the second half and Ziuzkova hit a go-ahead jumpshot (56-58) with 01:39 left in regulation.

As it turned out it was the last field goal from Horizont`s bench.

Verameyenka took over in overtime to score 8-of-10 Horizont`s points.

Minsk center had five consecutive points, including “and one” play for a three point lead 60-63.

Verameyenka hit a three pointer with 01:44 left in overtime to give Horizont its final lead 67-68.

Game notes

Dmitry Donskov relied on a seven player rotation – it was a lucky seven for Samara.

Trinity Baptiste and Jennifer O`Neill both played more than 40 minutes.

Horizont had three overtimes in Pieštany, including a double overtime drama against the hosts.

Samara improved to 2-1, while Horizont dropped to 1-2.
