I`m a believer! Nika and Žabiny win game one in EuroCup Women playoffs

Last time out

Peresvet SFEDU and Nika Syktyvkar are undefeated in Group B action.

Rostov on Don team won the home encounters against Tsmoki Minsk (74-63) and Liepāja/LSSS (74-62).

Komi unit prevailed over Liepāja/LSSS (89-59) and Tsmoki Minsk (83-43).

 

The home front

Nika has six wins and four losses in Russian Premier league.

Alexander Vasin`s team occupy the fourth position in standings, just behind three EuroLeague Women clubs – Dynamo Kursk (11-0), UMMC Ekaterinburg (10-0) and MBA Moscow (7-3).

The Lynxes won six of their first seven games before falling at Dynamo Novosibirsk (81-92) on November 28.

The most difficult home stand resulted in two losses against UMMC (65-108) and Dynamo Kursk (60-67).

Peresvet SFEDU has struggled lately. The Panthers traveled to Moscow on November 27 and fell at the hands of Dynamo 78-85.

December started with a home loss against Sparta&K 65-71 and a road bump at Dynamo Novosibirsk 62-72.

 

High hopes

EuroCup Women playoffs kicked off on December 15. Thirty two teams are playing home and away in Round One. Higher seeded teams have a right to play the second game at home.

Nika Syktyvkar posted a 103-74 success against Roche Vendee for a 29 point advantage before trip to France.

Azura Stevens (Duke/UConn) had 28 points on 11-of-16 shooting from the field and 6-of-6 from the free throw line.

A 2021 WNBA champion added 14 rebounds for a game high efficiency rating of 37.

Tyasha Harris, a 2017 NCAA champion with South Carolina, had 20 points.

Meanwhile, Žabiny Brno won the road game at DVTK Miškolc 61-57.

Petra Zaplatova led all scorers with 30 points, includind a 6-of-9 shooting from the three point line.
