Bria Holmes and Eliška Hamzova hardly missed a shot during the first half to lift Žabiny Brno (3-1) over the defending EWBL champion Horizont (1-1) in a 72-60 win on Wednesday, December 8, at the Diplomat Arena in Pieštany, Slovakia.

Bria Holmes scored a game high 20 points. Forward posted 12 points in the first half on excellent 4-of-5 shooting from the field and 3-of-4 from the free throw line.
West Virginia standout had four rebounds, three assists, two steals and one blocked shot for a efficiency rating of 20.
Eliška Hamzova registered another great stat line – 12 points, six rebounds and six assists for a game high efficiency rating of 22.
Point guard had eight points in the first half on 3-of-4 shooting inside the three point line.
Natalie Stoupalova added 11 points for the winners.
Anastasiya Verameyenka replied with 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field.
The reigning league MVP had six rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots for a team high efficiency rating of 20.
Mariane Roberta De Carvalho followed with nine points. Adrienne Nicole Webb (Louisiana State University) had seven points, six rebounds and three assists.
Key stats
Holmes, Hamzova and Stoupalova outscored Horizont in the first half 27-26 to earn a 17 point advantage for Žabiny Brno 43-26.
The Frogs made 16-of-24 two point shots during the first 20 minutes and scored 14 points off turnovers.
Horizont held Žabiny to 29 points in the second half but didn`t scored enough to complete a comeback.
Brno had more points off turnovers (18-2) and on fast breaks (16-4).
Game notes
Žabiny Brno improved to 3-1 and booked a ticket to the playoffs.
Horizont suffered a first loss in the EWBL since January 13, 2021 home stand against TTT Rīga 72-80.
Nataliya Trafimava`s and Zlatan Presič`s team won five consecutive games over Nika Syktyvkar, Kibirkštis MRU, Prometey Kamianske, Nika Syktyvkar and Pieštanske Čajky.
Anastasiya Verameyenka has accumulated a efficiency rating of 64 in just two games.
