Bench scores 40 points, Peresvet SFEDU hold off Liepāja comeback

Depth matters. Peresvet SFEDU bench players scored 40 players to lift the hosts (2-0) over relentless Liepāja/LSSS 74-62 on Saturday, November 6, at ODFK center in Rostov on Don.

Ekaterina Gunchenko filled the stat sheet in a most positive way possible.

Rostov on Don forward had 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field and 3-of-4 from the charity stripe.

Gunchenko grabbed seven rebounds, dished one assist, stole the ball twice, forced two fouls and had a +25 ratio in 21:07 minutes of playing time for a team high efficiency rating of 21.

Veronika Pavluchenko became another spark off the bench. She scored 13 points from all positions.

Ekaterina Riabova registered a double-double. She scored 12 points, grabbed 10 boards and dished out three assists.

Eleonora Oleynikova had 12 points, five points and three assists.

Paula Kļeščova scored seven of her 16 points in the third quarter.

Shooting guard added six rebounds, four assists and five steals for a game high efficiency rating of 26.

Ketija Vihmane also scored 16 points. Latvia national team hopeful made 6-of-11 shots from the field, including 3-of-6 from the three point line.

Vihmane grabbed three rebounds and stole the ball three times for a +6 ratio and a efficiency rating of 16.

Maija Gertsone scored all of her 11 points in the second half. Point guard added three assists and two steals.

Raivita Koreņika had eight points and seven rebounds.

Key stats

Peresvet SFEDU outscored Liepāja in the paint 48-28.

The Panthers dominated the paint in the first half, scoring 30 of their 38 points there.

Dmitry Fedoseev`s team outrebounded their opponents 53-30, including a 16-8 advantage in offensive boards.

Peresvet SFEDU bench outscored Liepāja 40-11.

All 11 Rostov on Don players on the court received at least seven minutes of playing time, while four finished in double figures.

Peresvet SFEDU led by 13 points after the first half 38-25.

Liepāja went on a 4-13 run early in the third quarter to cut the gap to four points 42-38.

Fedoseev took a rare timeout to consolidate his team. It worked despite the fact that Liepāja went 5-of-5 from three point line during the third quarter.

The Lions edged out the second half 36-37 but the Panthers emerged victorious 74-62.
